In the record “Being told four times to stand implies a serious situation” is the introduction to what follows where we are told, instructed and commanded to put on the whole armour of God. My source is the New Testament letter of Ephesians at chapter 6 and may I advise you read the relevant sentences as well as the record referred to above, as this is serious stuff and thorough and apposite in today’s world – no matter where we are serving and living.

Paul is reasoning of the roman soldiers who are guarding him in prison in Rome. He is chained to these men and he looks at their attire and uniform with spiritual insight. Spiritual leaders are able to do this.

Shield Protection

We are instructed to Stand Firm and wear the belt of truth. This would get any loose clothing out of the way, so that your legs were free to move. You had to be mobile.

Truth in these times is a scarce commodity. Many are discovering this among the top realms in the firm world to the shame and chagrin of those who are being found out. Behold, your sins will find you out. It is not just that your sins will be found out. It is much more serious. You will be found out!

Wear truth – honesty – integrity – be real – and put away any fancy masks of insincerity.

If we do not wear truth, we can trip up, over our words. If a man tells lies he must have a very good memory. What did I say on that occasion to that person? If you have told the truth, you do not need to be too concerned.

Truth allows the disciple of Jesus Christ to move colse to freely.

The Breastplate of Righteousness. It guards the heart – the seat of the emotions. What we have in our heart determines so much of what goes on in our lives.

Bitterness – unbelief – doubts – fear – worry – cause havoc! If the enemy can make his way in there, and pierce our heart, then we can be seriously wounded and injured.

Righteousness is a condition of the heart, and not the head. It is potential to believe all the right things, but not be right with people, and not be living the right way.

Belief and Behaviour are associated very closely together. What I believe influences how I live and how I behave.

Wear good sound solid trustworthy Shoes which here is called the Gospel of Peace. The Roman soldier’s shoes or boots would be bound colse to his calves with leather thongs. He needed to be mobile – able to move freely and safely – and cover long distances as favorably as possible.

Move colse to with peace – the peace of God – the peace which Jesus gives – for the rest of your life. Fight and Wrestle and Struggle – knowing that you have the peace of God in your heart.

Shoes mean you are going somewhere.

And, sleep with your boots on – sleep in peace. If the enemy approaches you and you have to look colse to for your boots, it may be too late. develop preparing is vital. Prepare now for what God wants you to do, or what you might have to suddenly face. Speak out of peace, and have the peace of God in your heart.

Take up the Shield Of Faith. There were two shields – a small round one – and a long oval one. The shield referred to here is the long oval one. When you put yourself behind it, you are totally protected, and we need total protection. We have to take it – grasp it – hold on to it – and not let it fall to the ground.

The enemy will attack all – what we believe – our peace – our mind – our unity – our finances – even our shield! So many just do not see that or believe it.

He will attack what we believe and how we obey! This is why we need the shield – so that the enemy cannot get straight through and hit us. The shield will quench all the fiery darts and arrows.

Wear The Helmet Of Salvation And take The Sword Of The Spirit.

If you are wounded in the head it is unlikely that you will be able to use the other pieces of armour. Know what you believe and why you believe it.

That helmet – put it on now – and it will safe you in other situations. The head represents the mind – our idea life – and there are population who would want to put bad thoughts into our minds, and that is why we need such protection.

Many cannot function because they are wounded in the head by bad thoughts – by negative thoughts. The enemy wants us to mistrust population – to be suspicious of population – to fear population – to doubt others – and it is then that depression can attack us. It hits us in the head, ordinarily by what we have permitted in our idea life!

The Helmet – so many in the world are wearing hard hats to safe them from anyone that might fall upon them – or if they bump into something – or come up against an obstacle – on the oil rigs not far from us in Nairn – at a building site – down a coal mine – and in the Church.

The church of Jesus Christ, the army of God, is a hard hat area!

And, take the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Know your Bible. Know what is in it. That will mean reading and learning it. Feed upon it. Use it. And pray.

I am sure you will have noticed that there is no safety for the back. Turning colse to – walking away – compromising and giving in – makes a man very vulnerable indeed.

The armour of God is not for bed, but for battle. The armour of God is not for going to a party, but for spiritual warfare. The armour of God is not fancy dress but essential equipment.
